The WellCare Stop Smoking Consultation with Treatment has been designed to give your will power support and your determination assistance. There are two tablet treatments available to help you stop smoking, Champix and Zyban. Both Champix® and Zyban® are alternatives to Nicotine Replacement Therapy (patches, gum etc) and don’t contain nicotine. Until Champix® was launched in December 2006 Zyban® was proven to be the most effective treatment to help you stop smoking. Clinical trials have shown that Champix® is more effective than Zyban® WellCare offers both tablet treatments by post following a telephone consultation and completion of a relevant medical history. Champix® Champix® is a prescription medication designed to help you quit smoking within 12 weeks. You agree with the doctor a date on which to quit smoking. Champix® is started 1 -2 weeks before the target quit smoking date. The tablets are then taken daily over a 12 week period. The 12 week course includes an initial consultation, 6 week consultation (by phone) and 12 week consultation (by phone) Zyban® Zyban® is a prescription medication designed to help you quit smoking within 8 weeks. You agree with the doctor when you will stop smoking and start taking Zyban® 7 to 14 days before your chosen stop smoking day. You then continue taking Zyban® as directed for the rest of the eight weeks. The 8 week course* includes a telephone consultation, 8 weeks tablets, access to online support. *Zyban® oral tablets are recommended to be used for two months.
