Childhood Vaccinations

Teddy BearAs well as offering general consultations and refererrals for children, (please see Family Doctor Consultations) WellCare Private General Practice has a wide range of childhood immunisations including

  • Single Vaccination Programme for Measles Mumps and Rubella*
  • Chicken Pox
  • Pneumococcal Bacteria (which can cause pneumococcal meningitis)
  • BCG (Tuberculosis)
  • Rotavirus
  • HPV
  • Hepatitis B

As your baby grows you will have to make decisions and choices about healthcare and one of those areas that causes many parents concern is childhood vaccinations. It is important that all children are vaccinated against childhood diseases. At WellCare we appreciate that parents would like the opportunity to choose how and when their child is vaccinated.

WellCare takes into account Department of Health guidelines and the department's current vaccination information when preparing vaccination schedules.

All our vaccines come from the United States or Europe.

Some vaccines that we offer (e.g. Measles, Rubella and Mumps)are "unlicensed". This simply means that the vaccines have not been granted a license in the United Kingdom, although they have licenses throughout Europe and North America. In the case of single component Measles and Rubella the licenses were withdrawn by the Department of Health when the combined MMR was introduced.

Although these vaccines are unlicensed they have been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for use on a named patient basis.

Children attending a WellCare consultation do not need a referral from their own GP. We recommend that you share the results of any consultation with your child’s usual doctors.  For this purpose we will give you a letter for your child’s GP explaining which vaccine has been administered.

*We wish to advise parents that there continues to be a delay in the provision of the Mumps component of the Single Vaccination Programme.  WellCare cannot promise that Merck will resume the manufacturing of Mumpsvax or that a suitable alternative vaccine may become available.
